Students
I pledge to learn more about healthy dating relationships and what to do if I find myself in an abusive or unhealthy dating situation.
I care by helping a friend in need through my positive actions or talking with a trusted adult.
I care by renewing my commitment to manage stress in healthy ways. (See Tips for Teens.)
I care by giving the gift of my time by pledging to volunteer for a social action project to give back to my school or community.
I care by expressing my gratitude and saying “thank you” to someone in my school who has helped me personally. (#7 on the tip sheet is “SHOW GRATITUDE. Being grateful improves our attitude towards ourselves and others. Say ‘thank you’ to people who have helped you personally or someone in your school or community who has made a difference.)
I care by not being a bystander when kids are being bullied in my school and by reading tips for preventing bullying.
I show I care by learning the warning signs of suicide and knowing what to do to help a friend at risk.
I care by learning the signs of healthy, positive relationships and friendships.
I pledge to speak up for others who may be bullied, especially for those students who have difficulty speaking up for themselves.

Families
I pledge to read about the importance of school-based mental health services and why good mental health is critical to my child’s success in school and life.
I will support my child’s mental health by creating a sense of belonging and reading other tips.
I care by reading Homework: A Guide for Parents and by starting homework routines and positive incentives for my children.
I care by reading the handout, Stress in Children and Adolescents: Tips for Parents, and by learning ways to help my family lessen stress that accompanies the holiday season.
Share gratitude daily. I care by telling my child each day, “I am grateful to be your parent and I love you."
I pledge to model positive reactions to traumatic or stressful events by following the tips in the handout, Managing Strong Emotional Reactions to Traumatic Events: Tips for Parents and Teachers.
I care by listening to the 10 minute podcast on Academic Motivation: Strategies for Students and by trying new supportive strategies this school-year to assist my child.
I care by reading the parent handout, Self-Efficacy: Helping Children Believe They Can Succeed, and by teaching my child to believe he can succeed in school and in life.

I pledge to learn more about how mental illness impacts an adolescent’s transition to adulthood, and to consider how I can help create policies and programs that better support the independence of young adults.
I will support policies and legislation that lead to improvements in school climate and safety such as the Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA).
I care by supporting effective schoolwide discipline strategies and policies.
